The Radiation Oncologist is a physician who specializes in using different types of ionizing radiation to treat many forms of cancer. They are trained in treating all stages of cancers and work closely with other physicians and health professionals involved in your care. Radiation Physicist
The Physicist is a Masters or Ph D level medical physicist who ensures that the radiation equipment is working properly. The machines are checked regularly to be sure they deliver the correct dose of radiation and that radiation safety standards are met.
Dosimetrist
The dosimetrist works under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist to plan out your treatment by calculating the amount of radiation to be delivered to the cancer.
Radiation Therapist
The Radiation Therapist will align you for your daily treatments, using state of the art localization equipment. The Therapist operates the equipment that delivers the radiation for each of your treatments.
Radiation Nurse
The Radiation Nurse coordinates your care and helps you learn about your treatment. They will work with your physician to help manage any side effects you may experience, and answer questions or concerns you may have throughout the treatment process.
Lab Technician
The lab technician may take blood counts once a week while you are undergoing radiation treatment. This is usually done in the office one or two days before you see the doctor for your weekly checkup.
Ancillary Staff
Many other staff members will be involved in making sure your appointments are scheduled, your insurance company is billed for your radiation treatment and your medical records are kept in order.
